Choose the volunteer program that suits you best from our two partners in South Africa:

Meerkats - Chayah Kalahari Project

Our partner, who rescues meerkats, cares for them, and releases them into the Kalahari Desert, invites you to join them! Discover these amazing animals and help care for them daily. Two possible volunteering options:

Full volunteer program

Assisting with daily tasks for meerkats and for the rehabilitation center such as :

  • Feeding and watering pups
  • Babysitting pups on their playtime untill they nap
  • Cleaning meerkats enclosures
  • Giving follow-up treatments and medication to injured or illed meerkats
  • Monitoring and feeding realeased meerkats in the wild
  • General maintenance at center : building new enclosures, repairing existing ones, ...

Typical day :

8:00 am (in winter)/7:00 am (in summer) : feeding meerkats, cleaning enclosures, taking care of pups, general maintenance, ...

lunch at 12:00, then continuing of the morning's tasks in the afternoon

16:00 : monitoring released meerkats

19:00 : diner and relaxation time

Leisure volunteer program

Premium option emphasizes a relaxed, flexible experience while still contributing to our mission.

Volunteers choose what they prefer to do during their day from tasks such as : administering treatments, monitoring released groups, pup care or enclosure cleaning and maintenance

Volunteers can combine their day with the meerkats with other activities on the farm or nearby: Horse riding/care, Enjoy a sand dune sundowner, looking for scorpions at night, ...

Price: 400€/week

Extras

For each of the two programs, other activities at the volunteer's expense are possible such as:

  • Visits to the nearby Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park,
  • Hot air ballooning over the stunning desert landscape
  • Visiting the salt pans
  • Visits to local bushmen restaurant and camel farm

Africa’s big cats - Felidae center

Felidae is our partner that rescues African big cats that were destined to die from canned hunting, sold on illegal pet markets, or endangered by humans. They rescue the felines and offer them a second life in a large natural space where they can thrive and be free again.

By volunteering at Felidae Center, you will have the opportunity to meet the animals they have taken in, such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, monkeys, and more.

Volunteer tasks

Your tasks as a volunteer at Felidae will include:

  • Prepare food for the animals and distribute it
  • Taking care of animals of the center
  • Exercise and stimulate animals every day
  • Cleaning the enclosures of the various animals
  • Assisting staff with tours and explanations for visitors to the centre
  • Numerous other tasks necessary to help Felidae and the animals on a daily basis

Volunteering at Felidae Center

By volunteering at Felidae Centre, you will help protect African big cats while learning more about their specific characteristics and behaviour every day by working closely with them.

Typical day :

07:00 am - Morning briefing & food preparation

08:00 - Volunteer Breakfast

09:00 - Animal Feeding & Welfare check

10:00 - Project of the day : building, reparing or cleaning enclosures, ...

12:00 - Lunch & relaxation

14:00 - Cleaning the meat room and continuing task of the day

17:00 - Sunset with Lions & enrichment time

18:00 - Dinner & Evening Wind-Down
